We started The Wavys after being inspired to take action when the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study unveiled the glaring absence of women in the music industry. The Wavys, founded in 2021, celebrates historically excluded and marginalized talent including women, non-binary individuals, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and artists with disabilities. The event has influenced accessibility awareness for The Grammys and The Libera Awards via our former partner RAMPD. The Wavys receives annual support from the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. Our first award show garnered 10k views on YouTube and was featured in Variety. We are proud to have obtained 501(c)3 nonprofit status as of 2023. Our partners include The Music Inclusion Coalition and KeyChange U.S. The founding team includes Rebecca Autumn Sansom (advocate for adoptee’s rights, award-winning filmmaker of “Reckoning with The Primal Wound”), M Vang (artist, M the Myth, Stanford & Berklee alum), Clare Jaymes (Clarity Events), and marketing expert Jennifer Ward. We are proud recipients of The Clinton Global Initiative’s 2023 Commitment to Action Award!

The invite-only red carpet event celebrated historically excluded artists, such as women, non-binary, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and artists who identify as having disabilities. Supported by The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, The Wavy Awards, took place at the Abrons Arts Center in New York City on October 23rd.
