Celeste Krishna Announces Sixth Album: The New Room
Celeste Krishna—the Alabama-raised, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and producer—celebrates her Southern roots and analog soul-rock lineage with the announcement of her sixth studio album, The New Room, out October 10, 2025.
Steeped in late 1960s vintage sound and recorded live-to-tape at Bearded Cat Studios (Mystic, CT), The New Room marks Celeste’s first full-length project as sole producer and arranger. The album journeys through fertility, family, and legacy-making, honoring the analog soul-rock of her earliest work as Monarchs while pairing head-nodding grooves with poetic, sharply imaginative storytelling.
The album’s title nods to her family’s “new room”—an addition to her grandmother’s Tuscaloosa house in 1967—paralleling Celeste’s personal fertility journey, motherhood, and the spirit of welcoming new life. Celeste explains, “‘the new room’ was basically the party room for my mom and aunts coming of age in the late ’60s and early ’70s. I decided to restrict production to the technology and workflows of that era and basically make a rock ’n’ soul album my family would dig.”
Musicians on the album include Adele Fournet (Tipa Tipo/La Banda Chuska/Combo Daguerre), Felipe Wurst (Tipa Tipo/La Banda Chuska), Michael Kane (The Specialists), and Ran Livneh (Habbina Habbina), captured in live, analog takes that channel the “Muscle Shoals spirit” up north.
The New Room stands among a broader, subversive wave of women, queer artists, and artists of color reclaiming Southern-rooted traditions, a lineage connecting Celeste to peers such as Brittany Howard and Margo Price. Themes range from intergenerational feminism and artistic legacy (“Pink Shade”) to upending vintage rock tropes (“No Ramblin’ Man”, “Living Rockstar”). Celeste’s arrangements highlight vulnerability as strength, blending humor, surreal imagery, and honest storytelling.
The record’s closer, “Record,” draws inspiration from NASA’s Voyager Golden Record, meditating on music’s role beyond fame: “Ain't gotta get no fortune or fame, for me to give my song away.” Each track affirms Celeste’s authorship in the self-produced landscape, building a communal “new room” around inclusivity, legacy, and creativity with friends.
