Why Holly Cinnamon's 'Heterophobic' is the Anthem We Need Right Now

Who sounds like Lana Del Rey and looks like the essence of a spice? Imagine if the sultry voice of a pop icon met the vibrant personality of your favorite seasoning—it's a recipe for musical magic! And encapsulates our new Wavy Favy, Holly Cinnamon!

We are so excited to share the new music video for "Heterophobic" with our Wavy fam, which is a powerful and timely anthem that challenges societal norms and confronts the complexities of sexuality and privilege in a post-Roe v. Wade world. And with the allusions to Project 2025 it’s getting even more compelling. Sadly. But in this era of La Resistance we have to keep making art and this song and music video are a perfect example of art as protest.

The track, which left audiences stunned at this year's Wavys after-party, showcases Holly Cinnamon's ability to blend personal experience with broader social commentary. Were you there? Did you see her rock out?

The song's origins, rooted in the aftermath of the Roe v. Wade overturn, lend it a raw emotional authenticity. Cinnamon's lyrics deftly explore the unexpected privilege of being a lesbian in a world where reproductive rights are under threat, flipping the script on traditional narratives of homophobia. With lines like "I know we're all scared in the streets; at least I feel safe in the sheets,"

Cinnamon captures the nuanced reality of queer experience in today's political climate. The track's production, helmed by her indie queer label Female Gayze Music, features a predominantly queer and female/non-binary team, further emphasizing its message of empowerment and representation.

"Heterophobic" is not just a song; it's a bold statement that challenges listeners to confront their own biases and consider the multifaceted nature of privilege and oppression. As the political landscape continues to shift, Holly Cinnamon's work stands as a testament to the power of art in sparking crucial conversations and fostering understanding.

The addition of the very wavy music video makes this artistic journey oh so satisfying.
